Abstract

The transition from traditional power grids to smart grids signifies a significant change in energy management, distribution, and consumption. A smart grid modernizes the electricity delivery system by monitoring, protecting, and automatically optimizing the operation of its interconnected components. It is often viewed as a solution to global warming, offering great potential for cleaner and more efficient power, improved air quality, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The smart grid enhances the 20th-century electrical grid by incorporating two-way communication and intelligent devices. This enables bidirectional flow of electricity and information, potentially improving the delivery network. This paper discusses the key applications of smart grid technology.
